Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Why would archive.org be blocked?

This morning when I tried to access archive.org my antivirus software (Bullguard in UK) wanted to block access, with the following warning:

quote:
"For your security BullGuard has blocked access to this page
The site is listed as a malicious site that may be stealing identity information, plant viruses on your machine or do other harmful things.

The information we have indicate that this site:
Contains pages that offer advice on how to commit illegal or criminal activities (e.g.: how to commit murder, build bombs, pick locks etc.), or how to avoid detection. They may also provide information about illegal manipulation of electronic devices, hacking, fraud and illegal distribution of software.

Contains pages that promote or offer advice on how to gain unauthorized access to proprietary computer systems, for the purpose of stealing information, perpetrating fraud, creating viruses, or committing other illegal activity related to theft of digital information".

I wonder why this should be the case. Anyone else have this problem?

(I've also posted this on the main archive forum).

That IS v interesting; on the one hand, just the little "cookie" biz would trigger something, right? IE, the "logging" of info for you as a poster, etc; however, the longer warning about what is DONE here suggests that there is a recognized "label" for the LMA, that has been decided upon and applied such that security programs can access it given it's their job to do so, etc. (ie, I think it a safe assumption to assume THE program you use doesn't do it; that would be way too much work for each and every site...).

And, finally, it's largely true, right? Meaning, you can, by digging around reviews and such, find out things here that "they" don't want you to know...and, I think skies does indeed WANT to murder BD, and I think that at one time or another Mando may have provided enough info so that she...oh...wait a minute; someone's at the door--

while bizarre, certainly not outside the realm of internet watchdogs and the like; we do, afterall, live in a subtle and not-so-subtle police-state, both on-line and off-line; the only similar experience i've had with the Archive is a pop-up in my brain when i'm about to venture onto the GD Forum, 'Warning! Bozos Ahead!!'
